Kyle Schmid was born in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga on August 3, 1984.
He began playing soccer when he was four years old, and continued playing on organized teams for the next 18 years. In an interview Kyle was once asked what he would be doing if he had not become an actor, and his response was "playing soccer at a school in the States". Perhaps he would have become a professional soccer player, but fate had other plans.
Kyle began doing modeling jobs as a child, then his active nature inspired his family to get him involved in acting. Success soon followed, with his first movie role in 1996. The film, an eco-thriller called Spill, had Kyle playing a sick child left alone in the wilderness after his family is stricken by a mysterious illness. The role was particularly challenging for a youngster in his first movie, as there were no spoken lines and Kyle had to convey everything his charater was experiencing through facial expression and body language.
Kyle's first major role was in the Disney movie Alley Cats Strike, for which he was chosen from 400 young actors vying for the lead role.
Kyle continued to act throughout his middle school and high school years. He continued playing soccer also, eventually playing in Ontario Cup championships with the Erin Mills Eagles. An active athlete, he also played football, enjoys horseback riding, snowboarding, and has even been known to jump out of a perfectly good airplane now and then.
Some highlights of his career during this period were movies such as A History of Violence; The Cheetah Girls; The Sandy Bottom Orchestra, for which he earned a Young Artists Award nomination; Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants; The Pacifier; and the popular television series Beautiful People.
After moving south to Los Angeles to continue his careeer, Kyle got the call to fly back to Canada to audition for a Lifetime television series based on Tanya Huff's vampire books. As Henry Fitzroy, a 400-year-old vampire (and illegitimate son of King Henry VIII). Kyle delivered an unforgettable performance, winning new fans worldwide.
He followed Blood Ties with a string of movies produced in 2007 and 2008, including Joy Ride 2-Dead Ahead, Deep Cove, The Thaw, and Strife; and also an appearance on the CBS hit, CSI: Miami.
From his earliest days on the set Kyle has been interested in the entire filmmaking process and would like to eventually expand his involvement.
When he's not filming in Vancouver or spending time with family and friends in Toronto, Kyle lives in Los Angeles with his dog Cali, whom he adopted from a local animal shelter.
